Ortigas Center, a pivotal central business district (CBD) in Metro Manila, distinguishes itself as a cornerstone of urban development. Once a vast, barren expanse spanning 4,033 hectares, this estate’s transformation began when Ortigas Land acquired its development rights. Over time, portions of this land were sold in significant parcels, while others were meticulously developed by Ortigas, giving rise to the thriving CBD we know today. In the 1960s, the Ortigas Center estate began its ascent as a financial hub, housing iconic structures and the Meralco Building. Beyond the Ortigas Center district, Ortigas Land’s visionary approach extended to neighboring areas: Greenhills, renowned for hosting one of the nation’s earliest shopping centers, and Tiendesitas, a vibrant marketplace offering an array of local delicacies, furniture, and handicrafts, emerged from this transformative vision. Today, Ortigas Center encompasses over 100 hectares, spanning across three vibrant cities: Mandaluyong City, Pasig City, and Quezon City. It stands as a self-contained “mini city,” seamlessly melding commercial, residential, and technological zones into a dynamic and comprehensive urban tapestry.
